Geothermal System Development

Morahalom
Within the framework of the CONCERTO element a heat-pump centre is planned utilising the remaining waste heat prior reinjection. A new, methane-based gas turbine will cover the heat pumps' power demand. The methane will be extracted from the thermal water produced at the new abstraction well (Hunyadi-liget-1). In the meantime power from the gas turbine utilizing the methane content of the thermal water being produced at the well of the city's thermal spa will be used right on spot.

Galanta
By implementing strict energy-efficiency measures new blocks will be included in the geothermal district heating system. In order to improve the environmental performance of the existing system developing a reinjection borehole is key along with the compilation of all necessary studies and related documentation. A new junction will be constructed allowing a new housing estate to be connected to the geothermal system providing hot water during the summer. Once retrofitting works on the current estate are completed (resulting in excess capacity), district heating will also be implemented.

Montieri
Montieri sets a new, ambitious example for Central-Eastern European countries, where higher temperature fluids (medium/high enthalpy) may also be recovered (although at significantly higher investment costs). With the help of innovative technological solutions the feasibility of tapping into medium enthalpy resources will be demonstrated. Challenges include high pressure (15-20 bar) and temperature (200-215 °C). Given the 170m elevation difference between the steam/hot water exchanger (530m asl) and the central exchanger (700m asl., in order to keep the circuit superheated 2 bars of water pressure is required to pressurize the circuit including the central exchanger, where jars of expansion will be installed.
