Innovation Convention 2011
5-6 December 2011

Geothermal Communities have been selected to be presented at the European Commission's Innovation Convention 2011 event in Brussels between 5-6 December 2011.

Our project was selected from among 450 applications and will be one of the 50 projects on display in the exhibition. It will also feature as the sole representative of the CONCERTO initiative. The GeoCom stand will be located at the Reliable, clean, efficient energy theme of the Research and Innovation Projects section.



Site visit in Kocani, Macedonia
March 2011

On 27-29 April, 2011 the last project meeting and on-site visit was organised in Kocani bearing the status of an associated city in the GeoCom project. The consortium visited the primary school which is heated by geothermal energy, lighted by solar energy and which has applied energy efficiency measures.

CONCERTO Final Forum
December 2010

Geothermal Communities project was represented at the Concerto Final event by Geonardo Ltd. The CONCERTO Final Forum held on 6-7 December 2010 in Brussels presented the results that had been drawn from the experiences of the 58 European cities that implemented the CONCERTO concept.

The Forum consisted of the following key themes:
  1. What has CONCERTO achieved so far and how will the results be replicated? (plenary)
  2. Roadmap to sustainable built environment: elements for success? (plenary)
  3. How to optimize energy performance? (parallel session)
  4. Measuring success (parallel session)
  5. Bringing all actors together (parallel session)
  6. Why training, informing and disseminating? (parallel session)
  7. Financing sustainable built environment in European cities (parallel session)
  8. From district to city, from city to region, from region to country: experiences of CONCERTO replication on regional and national level (parallel session)
  9. Creating the adequate regulatory and political environment: from best practices to best policies (2nd day, plenary)
  10. Looking to the future: Smart cities (2nd day, plenary)



International conference on energy efficient renovation in residential building sector
June 2010

The conference took place in Budapest from the 28th till 29th of June co-organised by the STACCATO and CONCERTO+. Within STACCATO three European capital cities Amsterdam, Budapest and Sofia, demonstrated sustainable energy concepts in representative existing residential areas. Geonardo participated on the event and distributed information about Geothermal Communities project.

The first day of the programme was concentrated around five important issues:
  1. Financial opportunities for energy efficient renovation projects
  2. Energy policy making on local level
  3. Technologies and innovations for reducing energy use & integrating renewable energies in an urban environment
  4. User behaviour, social issues and communication with residents - key to success
  5. Elements of success/lessons learnt
The second day provided a deep look into best practice projects through interactive workshops. The conference was an opportunity for Central Eastern European project developers, municipalities, NGOs and networks to get the most recent and relevant information on realising energy efficient investments.
