![]() Retrofitting and Energy EfficiencyMorahalom Two public buildings will be retrofitted. The Mora Primary and Secondary school (built: 1935 and 1972, area: 1990m2) currently spends 82% of its annual budget on heating (natural gas) due to extremely poor qualities of the external walls (e.g. 1.6 W/m2.K) and windows. Preliminary calculations indicate that insulating the building higher than the national/EC requirements would result in the optimum use of resources (total costs only 12-13% higher than with EC requirements). Both buildings will be equipped by an intelligent system to control ventilation and shading (during the summer). Galanta Work includes windows insulation of the elementary school and near super-insulation of block of flats. Insulating the elementary school includes the change of windows and doors, which are in disrepair and in addition to poor thermal insulation attributes, are dangerous when handling them. Three blocks have been selected where the similar external wall insulation technologies were carried out in accordance with the standard insulation system often used in the country and with the decision of the dwellers. Other elements of retrofitting were also the same to allow the evaluation of the performance of the demonstrated system under the specific local conditions and the typical social-housing structure of Slovakia. Montieri Montieri represents a challenging site for defining and testing a qualitative architectural integration of renewable energy technologies and retrofitting measures. In such an architectural heritage the potential for intervening at the building envelope level is quite limited. Only natural materials and methods are accepted which are in conformity with the medieval city structure. The climatic conditions here are similar to that of the Western Balkan Countries so results will be directly applicable to South-Eastern Europe taking into account the different socio-economic conditions. 20% of the total dwellings will be retrofitted, having an enormous effect on the energy balance and serving as a model for future projects. |
